Jack was never meant to be a hero. A forgotten jack-in-the-box jester already cast aside to the Underbed by the boy he belonged to, he is the only toy willing to stand against the Plucker - an ancient Abiku spirit that feeds on children's souls, systematically destroying their toys to drain the boy's life force and possess his body entirely. Torn apart in his first encounter with the Plucker's Foulthings, Jack is rebuilt by Thomas's nanny Mabelle: a copperhead snake heart sewn into his chest, a toy sword in one hand and a poison-tipped needle in the other. The jester is gone. What remains is something far more dangerous.
